Description

The Condaghe was a type of administrative document written on parchment, used in the Dioceses in the Judicial age, the golden age of Sardinia (XI-XIII). Originally its function was aimed at collecting donations for the ecclesiastical body. Later it became a more articulated and important document in which information was collected about crops, inventories, notarial and judicial documents. In addition to being a window onto the past, these documents were among the first to be written in the Sardinian language. The Condaghe of Santa Maria of Bonarcado is among the few still surviving. A source of pride for the whole Bonarcado community, this paper tells of a small hard-working community which grew up around the ecclesiastical complex that became one of the main religious centers of the island, as well as being a venue for important political meetings.
